Jill E. Fox specializes in real estate and business litigation, including development, leasing, finance, and real estate transaction disputes.  She has represented clients in matters involving commercial and residential property, common interest developments, closely held businesses, mortgage and deed of trust issues, foreclosure, receivership issues, guarantor liability, commercial leasing, anti-SLAPP issues, and professional standards of care and conduct.  She has

• Represented a mixed-use developer in a successful challenge to a secured lender’s attempted illegal receiver’s sale of real property security in violation of California’s One Form of Action rule;
• Successfully defended a client investor in a $6.5 million loan guaranty enforcement action;
• Settled a national high-tech corporate tenant’s $300,000 commercial leasing dispute involving multiple technical systems and HazMat issues;
• Settled a landlord’s leasing and guaranty dispute with a tenant in multiple retail shopping center locations;
• Participated in a three-month jury trial involving valuation of businesses and real property in excess of $2.2 million;
• Drafted a successful attorney disqualification motion in a nationally publicized multi-million-dollar settlement dispute before the Ninth Circuit and federal District courts;
• Defended a key employee in a business dispute involving the sale of a business, real property claims, and trade secrets claims; and
• Worked on complex breach of trust litigation involving disputed ownership of large family-owned business, real estate holdings, and multiple other assets, resulting in a substantial settlement for the client.

PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Jill is an adjunct professor at Lincoln Law School of San Jose, where she teaches legal writing.  She is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association and chair of the Professionalism Committee. She is Vice-Chair and a founding board member of the Bay Area Urban Debate League, an education nonprofit that brings academic debate to regional urban high schools.

Before practicing law, Jill produced educational television programming for PBS, Lifetime Medical Television, and corporate clients.

Jill obtained her undergraduate degree from Vassar College and her Masters in Journalism from the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California, where she also taught undergraduate writing.
