Tim Cullen is a trial lawyer, a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and head of the worldwide Trial Practice at Jones Day. Tim is commonly called on to lead teams and present cases in the most complicated commercial matters, including antitrust (for both plaintiffs and defendants), contract, trade secret, and shareholder disputes. He has tried federal and state jury cases, argued federal appeals, and been lead counsel in U.S. and international arbitrations.
Recently he and his teams have achieved a multimillion dollar ruling for a French client seeking in arbitration a return of part of its purchase price for an acquisition, a multimillion dollar jury verdict for a coal company seeking return of the unearned portion of a bonus, and a Delaware Chancery ruling allowing a client's merger to go through despite a challenge from a joint venture partner.
In addition to being selected to the American College of Trial Lawyers (an honor given to fewer than one percent of active trial lawyers), Tim has been recognized by the Legal Times as one of D.C.'s Top Ten Commercial Litigators and named nationally as a BTI Client Services All-Star MVP two years in a row. For more than 15 years, Tim has been an active member of the Center for Public Resources, a leading group of corporate and firm lawyers focused on alternative dispute resolution, and developed a broad sensitivity to where and how mediation or other alternative procedures are the best way to serve the client.
