Mr. Cox was born just north of Boston in Ipswich, Massachusetts, the third of six children, and later went to boarding school in Easthampton, Massachusetts where his forebears had attended. There, he and Gerald Padmore first met as classmates and soccer teammates. They were later reunited as partners. Mr. Cox began his law career practicing in London in 1971, where he initially worked with oil and gas legal issues. Upon returning to Denver, he broadened his career by entering the area of complex commercial litigation. By 1975, Mr. Cox was specializing in business relationships and related litigation and by 1988 expanded the firm to California. During this period, he also taught courses at the University of Denver College of Law. Today Mr. Cox combines responsibility for co-managing the law firm with supervision of much of the trial work. His talents as legal and trial strategist are relied upon daily by the other lawyers in the firm as they direct litigation.
Mr. Cox has always had an interest in the academic side of law. Since being admitted to the practice he has authored numerous articles and lectured on a diverse range of issues, becoming a special author for West Publishing Company in 1977, and contributing to the Colorado Practice Court Rules Annotated. In his law school he founded the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy, served as its Editor-in-Chief and became President of the University of Denver College of Law International Law Society. Throughout his practice, Mr. Cox has conducted numerous commercial litigation seminars on a variety of subjects, in addition to serving as a lecturer at the University of Denver College of Law.
Mr. Cox now concentrates on commercial litigation and has been chosen as a Certified Civil Trial Advocate and Diplomat by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is admitted to practice in Colorado, Texas, California, New York, the U.S. District Court Northern District of California, the U.S. District Court Southern District of Texas, the U.S. District Court District of Colorado, the U.S. Court of Appeals 2nd, 5th, 9th, and 10th Circuits, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Federal Courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
