Peterson, Jeffrey D.

Jeff Peterson is a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. His practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark and copyright law with an emphasis on securing U.S. and foreign patent protection for chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology related inventions.

Mr. Peterson is experienced with all aspects of patent prosecution, including conducting patent searches, conducting patentability analyses, preparing patent applications, and prosecuting patent applications to allowance. He is also experienced with conducting infringement analyses, preparing non-infringement and patent invalidity opinions, and counseling regarding non-infringing designs.

Mr. Peterson also has a vast amount of experience on licensing issues around intellectual property, and patents in particular. Mr. Peterson has served as the lead patent licensing attorney for a variety of companies from large biotech concerns, to midsize manufacturing clients, to new technology start up ventures. Additionally, Mr. Peterson has significant experience in handling technology transfer licenses from large research universities and governmental entities, especially in the bio-fuels arena. He is an active member of the Licensing Executive Society and the Association of University Technology Managers with respect to such licensing issues. He has also assisted clients in the negotiation of research and development agreements involving a wide variety of underlying technologies.

Mr. Peterson is also experienced with assisting clients in international and domestic trademark prosecution, trademark clearance searching, licensing, and unfair competition. He advises clients about selecting trademarks; evaluates and advises clients about the existence of infringement; and counsels clients on the proper use of trademarks.
