Andrew W. Cohen is of counsel in the law firm of Koonz, McKenney, Johnson, DePaolis & Lightfoot. He joined the firm in July 2001 after spending nearly nine years as a litigator at a large multinational law firm. During his career, Mr. Cohen has represented individual and corporate clients in complex legal proceedings in state and federal courts throughout the United States.
Mr. Cohen’s current practice focuses on a series of class-action lawsuits on behalf of landowners nationwide whose rights have been violated by telecommunications and railroad companies. In connection with the placement of fiber-optic cable to build out high-speed telecommunications networks, these corporations have unjustly profited from the sale and use of property rightfully belonging to the landowners. These “right-of-way” lawsuits seek to obtain compensation for the landowners whose property rights have been violated.
Mr. Cohen received his B.A. from Tufts University, where he graduated with honors. He holds an M.A. in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Mr. Cohen earned his law degree from Boston College Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the International and Comparative Law Review. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Cohen served for three years as a legislative assistant to U.S. Representative Edward J. Markey (D-Massachusetts), handling a variety of foreign and domestic policy issues.
Mr. Cohen is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and Massachusetts. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts in Washington, D.C. and Massachusetts, the United States Courts of Appeal for the First Circuit, the D.C. Circuit, and the Federal Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Cohen is also a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C.
Mr. Cohen resides in the District of Columbia with his wife Nicola Goren and their son Jacob.
