Mr. Cingcon was born in Stockton, California. After graduating from Edison High School, he served his country in the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant while serving with the 1st Air Calvary Division (229th Assault Helicopter Battalion) in Vietnam and the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment in Germany.
Following his military service, Mr. Cingcon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1973 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1976.
In 1978 he returned home to Stockton, California and joined the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office and served as a Deputy District Attorney from 1978 to 1985. He quickly began prosecuting major felonies including homicides, gaining a reputation as an outstanding prosecutor. While he was a Deputy District Attorney, one of Mr. Cingcon's notable achievements is that he prosecuted 22 major felony jury trials in 10 months.
In 1985 Mr. Cingcon left the District Attorney's Office and opened his private practice. As a criminal defense attorney, he soon achieved legendary success in gaining acquittals in murder trials. He is recognized as one of the preeminent criminal defense attorneys in northern California.
In 1988 he was inducted into the Edison High School Hall of Fame. In 1992 he was the recipient of the Law Day Award from the San Joaquin County Bar Association for his contributions to the legal community. For 10 years he was an instructor at the San Joaquin Delta College Police Academy in Courtroom Demeanor and Courtroom Testimony.
Mr. Cingcon is the co-creator of the Theme-Based Approach to trial advocacyTM and together with Mr. Humphrey has worked as a consultant through their advisory firm, Theme-Based Trial Advisors.
In his leisure time Mr. Cingcon enjoys traveling and horse racing. He is married and he has ten children.
Over the last 34 years in private practice, Mr. Cingcon has handled a wide variety of cases ranging from personal injury and white collar crime to criminal cases. In recent years he has concentrated on criminal defense including all major felonies; homicides, special circumstances, and death penalty cases. He has practiced in state courts in northern California and in federal court in the Eastern District.
Mr. Cingcon has tried over 150 jury trials and gained acquittals in eight murder cases.
