Trammell Newton has extensive antitrust and trade regulation experience, which includes dealing with the Federal Trade Commission, the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice, and state attorneys general on regulatory matters, principally challenges to proposed mergers, acquisitions, or joint ventures. He has also represented clients in numerous state and federal trial and appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court, and in price-fixing, monopolization, price discrimination, dealer protection, and other similar litigation. He has handled the defense of a number of antitrust class actions as well as antitrust criminal prosecutions.

Recently Trammell has participated in the successful defense of two litigated challenges to hospital mergers, the favorable settlement of a nationwide consumer fraud class action in the textile industry, the decertification in multidistrict proceedings of a class of indirect purchasers of methionine (an animal feed supplement), the defense of a leading non-U.S. airline in a nationwide antitrust class action brought by travel agents challenging the elimination of the base commissions the airlines formerly paid, the defense of a foreign paper manufacturer in price-fixing and market allocation class actions in two separate industries, and the defense of a major chemicals manufacturer in a nationwide class action alleging vertical and horizontal price-fixing. Trammell's practice also involves counseling clients on structuring arrangements so as to minimize antitrust and related regulatory risk and conducting audits, internal investigations, and compliance programs related to antitrust and trade regulation laws.

Trammell's litigation experience has also involved other complex commercial matters, in which he has utilized his economics background to develop or challenge damages theories, to address economics-based liability theories, and to deal with experts in those areas. These cases have included a constitutional challenge to the manner in which states taxed banks (resolved in the U.S. Supreme Court), litigation over major construction contracts, prosecution of a fraud case against the officers of and accountants for a bankrupted publicly held health care company, and lawsuits over the viability of the commercial impracticability defense for nondelivery under commodities contracts.

He is a member of the ABA (Antitrust Law Section), the State Bar of Georgia (Antitrust Section), and the bars of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
