Murphy joined Kelley & Ferraro LLP in 1999 after spending three years at Davis & Young LLP defending asbestos cases. He graduated from Gilmour Academy in 1988, Purdue University with a BA in 1992 and from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1995. . Murphy was named Partner in 2004, and Equity Partner in 2006. He serves as Magistrate for Bratenahl and Grand River Courts and has served as Special Prosecutor in Bratenahl. He serves as an Arbitrator for the Alternative Dispute Resolution department of the Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court. Murphy is licensed to practice law in Ohio, Pennysylvania, and New York. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the New York Bar Association, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He is admitted to the United States District Court of Ohio, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and The Supreme Court of the United States of America. Murphy has recovered millions of dollars on behalf of Asbestos clients as well as Personal Injury clients. As a result of his accomplishments he was selected as a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He has been rated as “excellent” by AVVO based on his experience, industry recognition and professionalism. Furthermore, he has also been recognized as an Ohio Super Lawyer five times: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2013. Away from the courtroom, he served as the Commisioner of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association's Young Lawyer’s Softball League for ten years. As Captain of his team, he won ten consecutive championships. In 2012, he was nominated as a board member of the Cleveland Baseball Federation.
