Mr. Monaco has more than eight years of experience representing clients in complex commercial matters. He joined O’Brien LLP in October 2011, where he has represented hedge funds, corporations, and individuals in commercial and employment related disputes in state and federal courts around the country.
Prior to joining O’Brien LLP, Mr. Monaco worked at Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP, where he worked on a wide variety of commercial disputes, and helped corporations and financial institutions respond to governmental investigations. Prior to that, Mr. Monaco was with Sullivan & Graber in New Jersey, where he represented insurance companies litigating large-scale insurance fraud cases.
Representations in which Mr. Monaco has participated include:
• Represented a multi-billion dollar hedge fund in an arbitration brought against a former employee for breach of a separation agreement, obtaining an award of over $900,000 in damages.
• Represented a hedge fund manager and worked on the trial team as co-lead counsel in a jury trial in Alabama, defending against breach of contract claims and pursuing claims of fraud and breach of fiduciary duty against a well-known public REIT. Obtained a verdict of $12.7 million, including punitive damages, and dismissal of all claims asserted against the client.
• Represented a prominent manufacturing company in obtaining approval of a merger with a rival company after an SEC investigation.
