Mr. Monaco’s practice focuses primarily on complex business litigation in state and federal courts. His experience includes representing directors and officers, as well as debt and equity investors, in direct and derivative lawsuits alleging breaches of fiduciary duty, violations of state and federal securities and RICO laws, and business torts. He is also well-versed with the insurance coverage issues implicated by these claims under primary and excess D&O policies. In addition, Mr. Monaco has substantial experience representing business entities and their principals in commercial lease disputes and cases involving allegations of successor liability and fraudulent transfer.

In addition to complex business litigation, Mr. Monaco dedicates a substantial portion of his practice to insurance coverage and bad faith litigation. He has experience representing primary and excess insurers in a variety of coverage disputes involving first- and third-party insurance policies. He also has experience representing insurers in loss allocation litigation.

Mr. Monaco’s litigation experience is all-encompassing. It includes risk assessment, pre-suit analysis and resolution, discovery, pre-trial motions, mediation, trial, post-trial motions, and appeals. This includes serving as second-chair trial attorney in a multi-party, six-day jury trial in a case seeking in excess of $1 million in damages.

Prior to joining Picadio Sneath Miller & Norton, P.C., in 2012, Mr. Monaco practiced for seven years in Phoenix, Arizona. There, his practice focused on business and real property litigation (including access and title issues), in addition to legal malpractice defense. As an extension of his legal malpractice defense work, Mr. Monaco maintains an active interest in legal ethics and other professionalism matters. Mr. Monaco remains actively licensed to practice in Arizona.

Mr. Monaco is a 2005 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law, where he served as an editor of the Iowa Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Executive Board. He also holds a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated summa cum laude and majored in Philosophy and the History of Art and Architecture.

When not practicing law, Mr. Monaco enjoys closely following his favorite sports teams, including the Steelers, the Penguins, the Pirates, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phoenix Coyotes, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He is also an avid music lover, who likes to collect vinyl records.
