Mike is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association and is based in our Minneapolis office. He is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Section practicing principally in the areas of:
Prior to joining Briggs, Mike was an associate with a South Carolina law firm representing management in all areas of labor and employment law before state and federal courts, and administrative agencies. Mike has litigated ADEA, Title VII (race, national origin and sexual harassment) ADA, FMLA, whistleblower and contract cases.
Mike regularly assists employers facing union organizing attempts and represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board and federal courts in labor matters, negotiates collective bargaining agreements for employers, and represents employers in labor arbitrations.
He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Minnesota, South Carolina and North Carolina, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th and 8th Circuits. Mike is a member of the Hennepin County, Ramsey County, Minnesota, North Carolina, South Carolina and American Bar associations. He is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of above mentioned state bar associations, as well as the American Bar Association. He is a frequent speaker on labor and employment law matters, and has been a guest lecturer in both the undergraduate and graduate business schools at the University of St. Thomas. In 2006, Mike was recognized as one of the United States' top 100 labor attorneys by the Labor Relations Institute. He has also been named a “Minnesota Rising Star” by Minnesota Law & Politics. He serves as pro bono counsel to Young Audiences of Minnesota.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Mike received his B.S.B.A. summa cum laude in 1991 from the University of Denver and graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School cum laude in 1994. Mike joined Briggs in 1997.
