After graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1971, Steve Mirakian embarked on a nine year tour of duty in the United States Army. After three years as a field artillery officer, Mirakian spent three years in law school, graduating cum laude from Washburn Law School in 1974. The next three years were spent defending literally hundreds of soldiers as a trial defense lawyer in military court martials. These years of trying a multitude of jury and non-jury cases prepared Mirakian for his entry into civilian law practice in 1980 with the personal injury and criminal defense law firm, Barnett & Lerner in Kansas City, Kansas. After two years with Barnett Law Firm, Mirakian joined his present law colleague, Jim Wyrsch, in the firm that is now known as Wyrsch Hobbs & Mirakian, P.C. Since 1982, Mirakian has been primarily responsible for handling a wide variety of complex personal injury and business related civil cases and, to a lesser degree, white collar criminal cases for Wyrsch Hobbs & Mirakian, P.C. In addition to managing a significant litigation case load involving over a hundred trials since 1982, Mirakian has woven into his practice a substantial amount of work in the areas of real estate transactions, wills and estates and commercial transactions. Areas of civil litigation to which Mirakian devotes most of his time include representation of a national laundry service company in all of its litigation in the mid-west, representation of several banks and other major companies in the Kansas City area in commercial disputes and land condemnation cases, representation of individuals in personal injury cases (including cases involving medical malpractice), products liability, business torts, civil rights, employment litigation and business disputes involving contract enforcement and fraud. Mirakian's law related experience includes lecturing at numerous seminars, teaching for ten years as an adjunct professor of business law at Johnson County Community College and hosting a legal issues talk show on CNN radio in Kansas City from 1990 through 2000. Mirakian is licensed in the states of  Kansas and Missouri and has been admitted to practice and has tried cases in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, and Colorado and has argued cases in the Kansas and Missouri Court of Appeal, the Missouri Supreme Court, the Eighth and Tenth Circuit Court of Appeal and the military's highest court, the Court of Military Appeals.

Mirakian has been married for over 30 years and has four sons who are all taller than him, and better tennis players.
