Marc P. Miles is an experienced civil litigator, who specializes in complex business litigation and employment law cases. Mr. Miles also handles a variety of intellectual property matters, including copyright, trademark, false advertising and trade secret litigation. His broad variety of experience also includes cases concerning catastrophic injury and wrongful death.

In November 2011, Mr. Miles successfully negotiated a $700,000 settlement for the family of a 24 year-old who was killed while riding as a passenger in a Ferrari that lost control and crashed while traveling along Pacific Coast Highway in the City of Newport Beach on Christmas Eve.

In August 2011, Mr. Miles won a $114 million jury trial. His client, the widow of a man who committed suicide after being accused of running a Ponzi scheme, was sued for more than $100 million in a class action case by approximately 1,000 investors. Following a 4 week jury trial, Mr. Miles won a complete defense verdict for his client. The other defendants (not represented by Mr. Miles) were not as fortunate, in that the jury found some of them liable for $114 million and others liable for $46 million. The jury found in favor of Mr. Miles’ client on all counts.

In April 2009, Mr. Miles represented a distinguished cardiologist who was sued for more than $20 Million dollars. Mr. Miles successfully defended that case which resulted in the recovery of more than $2.7 Million for his client.

In similar fashion, in December 2010, Mr. Miles represented a partner of a $600 million private equity firm, who was threatened with a $10 million lawsuit. Prior to litigation even beginning, Mr. Miles successfully negotiated a settlement whereby his client paid nothing, but received more than $600,000.

In August 2007, Mr. Miles secured a $9.4 million settlement for one of his business clients in a heavily litigated case stemming from a product defect. Two months later, Mr. Miles and the balance of the trial team obtained a $50 million settlement for two women who were rendered quadriplegic when struck by a motorist while jogging in the City of Dana Point. This is currently the largest settlement of its kind in the entire nation.

In 2003, Mr. Miles, along with Dan Callahan and Brian McCormack, obtained the largest jury verdict in Orange County's history, when a jury awarded their corporate client more than $934 million in a breach of contract and fraud case. This record-breaking verdict was the largest in California and the second largest in the nation that year.

Mr. Miles has also handled a variety of complex appeals, which include having successfully argued before the Federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Miles currently serves as the Chairman of the Business Litigation Section of the Orange County Bar Association.

In 2012, Mr. Miles was recognized as a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers magazine. This honor is reserved for the top 2.5% of lawyers in Southern California under the age of 40. This is the eighth year in a row that he has received this honor.

In 2010, Mr. Miles also received the honor of being named a National Finalist of Lawdragon's 500 Leading Lawyers in America.

Mr. Miles graduated from Southwestern University School of Law, where he served on the Board of Governors for the Interscholastic Trial Advocacy Program. As part of an elite trial team, Mr. Miles competed in the prestigious ABA National Trial Advocacy Competition in Chicago, where he finished third in the nation.

Mr. Miles obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Irvine, in Criminology, Law & Society. He was admitted to the California Supreme Court in 1998, and is also licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Central, Eastern and Southern Districts of California, and the Second Circuit, Fourth Circuit and Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals.

Mr. Miles has excelled at both the trial and appellate levels. His published decisions include: In Re: Blackwater Security Consulting, 460 F.3d 576 (4th Cir. 2006), cert. denied, 127 S. Ct. 1381 (2007); Nordan v. Blackwater Security Consulting, 382 F.Supp.2d 801 (EDNC 2005); Goleta v. Ordway, 166 F.Supp. 1287 (2001); Day v. Fontana, 25 Cal.4th 268 (2001); and Cruz v.
