J. Patrick Meyer, Jr., a partner in the firm, has practiced with the firm since December 1971. Prior to that time, he was employed in the Tax Department of Price-Waterhouse & Co. in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Meyer is also a Certified Public Accountant in Georgia.
Mr. Meyer works primarily in the areas of taxation, estate planning, business, corporate law, pension, profit sharing and employee benefits. He has extensive experience in: federal and state tax matters; estate planning, probate, wills and trusts; business and tax matters including business acquisitions and dispositions; partnership, corporation and limited liability company tax and business matters including advice to clients regarding the types of organizations, formations, purchase and sale of businesses; pension and profit sharing plan design, implementation and administration, ERISA and employee benefit matters. His estate planning practice includes extensive experience in advice to clients with regard to estate and gift tax matters including family limited partnerships, charitable giving and charitable trust techniques and private foundations.
Mr. Meyer is listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" in the areas of corporate, tax, trusts and estates. Mr. Meyer was a lecturer in Law at the Walter F. George School of Law from 1973 to 1977. He authored the Fifth Circuit Survey Article on Federal Taxation for the Mercer Law Review 1973 through 1975 and 1978. He is a member of the Georgia and American Bar Associations and the Macon Estate Planning Council. He served as President of the Macon Estate Planning Council in 1990-1991. He is admitted to practice in all Georgia courts, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia and the United States Tax Court.
Mr. Meyer has been active in local, regional and international civic activities having served for eight years on the Board of Directors of Sertoma International (an international civic/service organization) and also as the Sertoma International President 1987-1988. He subsequently served six years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sertoma Foundation which is a international charitable organization. Locally he has served on the Planned Giving Committee of the Medcen Community Health Foundation, as a member and past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Mt. de Sales Academy and as past president and past member of the Board of Directors of the Sertoma Club of Macon. He is a past member and past president of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Counsel.
