John McGuirk is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. McGuirk has extensive experience in all phases of complex commercial litigation. He has had major litigation responsibility in numerous multimillion dollar cases involving corporations such as Amoco, Mobil, Rohm & Haas and AT&T, and has extensive experience handling expert discovery issues in complex litigation matters. Most recently, Mr. McGuirk's practice has focused on Hatch-Waxman patent infringement litigation on behalf of generic pharmaceutical companies in federal courts throughout the United States. He also provides patent counseling and freedom to operate opinions on behalf of pharmaceutical clients.
For over ten years Mr. McGuirk conducted independent doctoral-level research at the University of Chicago and at Argonne National Laboratory, where he devised new methods for the extraction of organic compounds from primitive meteorites. He has a solid background in all phases of chemistry, including bioorganic chemistry, and has hands-on experience with such analytical techniques as GCMS, NMR, x-ray crystallography, FTIR and chromatography. He also has extensive experience with solvent extraction systems, often dealing with samples in the micromole range.
Before attending law school, Mr. McGuirk spent almost a decade in the Air Force and Air National Guard, amassing over 2500 hours as pilot in command in a variety of aircraft, including tactical fighters. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot rating from the FAA.
