McElveen, J. Thomas

Monica McCullough represents employers in all stages of labor and employment proceedings before state and federal courts, administrative agencies, mediators, and arbitrators. Her litigation experience ranges from single plaintiff employment cases to large class and collective actions in matters arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Moreover, Monica regularly counsels employers regarding labor and employment matters and policies, and she provides training to managers on sexual harassment, employment discrimination, age discrimination, termination decisions, disciplinary issues, and employee handbooks.

Monica coauthored "Section 216(b) Collective Actions: A Vehicle for Group-Initiated Claims" published in the Employee Relations Law Journal, Winter 2001. She is also a frequent speaker at employment and management law programs. Monica has spoken on a variety of topics, including the Family and Medical Leave Act, keeping employee handbooks in compliance, and recordkeeping policies for human resource employees.

Monica is active in pro bono work with youth in the Atlanta area. Currently, she serves as a volunteer for the Truancy Intervention Project (TIP). TIP seeks to eradicate school failure through attorneys who serve as legal and mentoring resources for children accused of truancy. Monica has also volunteered with Bedford Pines Child & Family Resource Center and Capitol Area Mosaic and as a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, and the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys. Monica has been named a "Georgia Rising Star" for 2006.
