Steve Mathis graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1990 with a BSBA in Accounting. Mr. Mathis is a Certified Public Accountant and began his accounting career with Baird, Kurtz & Dobson (now BKD) in its Tulsa office. In 1992, Mr. Mathis accepted a position with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). After spending the better part of his final three (3) years working with PwC's Financial Advisory Services Litigation Support Group on a fraud case, Mr. Mathis decided to change careers and enrolled in law school at the University of Tulsa. Mr. Mathis graduated from the University of Tulsa College of Law, with highest honor, in 2001.
Because of his business and accounting background, Mr. Mathis has had the opportunity to focus his practice in the areas of business and commercial litigation and commercial transactions. His practice also extends to the areas of medical malpractice defense, estate planning and taxpayer advocacy in federal and state tax controversies. Mr. Mathis has tried cases in Oklahoma state courts and has litigated matters in both state and federal court throughout Oklahoma.
Mr. Mathis is admitted to practice before all trial and appellate courts in the State of Oklahoma, all federal district courts in Oklahoma and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. Mr. Mathis is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, Tulsa County Bar Association, Oklahoma Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. He is a Barrister in the Hudson-Hall-Wheaton Chapter of the American Inns of Court and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mr. Mathis served on the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association of Oklahoma for ten (10) years. He is married and has two children. Mr. Mathis and his family attend church at the Sand Springs United Methodist Church.
