Dean R. Maglione, Esq. is Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil & Criminal Trial Attorney. He is among a distinguished group of less than 100 attorneys out of 80,000 licensed in the state to have been granted both the Civil and Criminal Certifications.
Recently, in November 2011, he obtained a jury verdict against the City of Newark on behalf a motorcyclist who sustained orthopedic and neurological injuries to his leg after hitting an unmarked pothole. After a seven day trial, the jury awarded the plaintiff $3 Million for past and future medical bills, pain and suffering, and loss of enjoyment of life.
Dean attended Rutgers College, where he was admitted to the Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Omicron Epsilon, and Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Societies, and achieved numerous other honors and awards for his outstanding scholarship. He graduated with Highest Honors in 1996, after completing a double major in both Economics & Accounting.
He received his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, Newark in 1999. During law school he served an externship at the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, Division of Law. He also did judicial externships on both the federal and state levels, with the Honorable Robert R. Guida, J.S.C. in Bergen County Superior Court, Civil Part, and with the Honorable Ronald J. Hedges, a US Magistrate for the District Court of New Jersey.
Following law school, Mr. Maglione served as a law clerk to the Honorable Phillip M. Freedman, J.S.C., in the Essex County Superior Court, Civil Part. He then served as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Essex County Prosecutor's Office from 2000 through 2005. During his tenure at the Prosecutor's Office, he tried 29 criminal jury trials to verdict. He obtained numerous convictions for very serious crimes, including homicides, sexual assaults, aggravated assaults, and robberies, and he attracted national media attention when he successfully prosecuted an underground cult of grave robbers, who had been secretly conducting their morbid rituals in urban northern New Jersey. The case resulted in a published opinion , State v. Miriam Miraballes, 392 N.J. Super. 342 (App. Div. 2007) where the Appellate Division called it “a hard fought trial.”
In 2005, Mr. Maglione transitioned into private practice, joining one of New Jersey’s most prestigious law firms. During his tenure at the firm, he concentrated his practice in personal injury, employment, and civil rights litigation. While there, he worked on several cases that resulted in multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for his clients.
In 2006, he opened his own law firm and is the founder of the Newark-based Maglione Firm, P.C. He practices in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury, medical malpractice, civil rights, police brutality and employment law discrimination. .
In 2012, his long history of professional accomplishment entitled him to join New Jersey Super Lawyers, a highly exclusive listing of the top 5% of lawyers in the state, and he is a life member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
