David P. Lucas is an attorney and shareholder of the Firm. He was born in Grand Rapids in 1957. He received his A. B., summa cum laude from Albion College in 1979, and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1982. David practiced law in Detroit and Grosse Pointe, Michigan, before returning to his "home town" of Battle Creek and joining the Firm in 1989.
David's areas of concentration are employee benefits, estate planning, corporations, probate and taxation.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan and Calhoun County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Employee Benefits, Taxation, and Probate and Estate Planning Sections of the State Bar of Michigan and a member of the Employee Benefits, Taxation, Probate and Estate Planning, and Copyright, Patent, and Trademark Sections of the American Bar Association. David is the former President of the Calhoun County Estate Planners Council, and serves as a board member and legal counsel for various nonprofit organizations.
He has lectured on estate planning, employee benefits, and corporation matters in addition to authoring articles titled, "New Regulations Give Guidance on Making Loans from Qualified Retirement Plans" (1990); and "Low Interest and Interest Free Loans" (1985); and co-authoring "Who Should Control Investment of Retirement Plan Funds" (1985).
David and his wife, Catherine, reside in Battle Creek.
