Alva Wesley-Thomas grew up in a small town near Longview, Texas where people believed in hard work and family values. She attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas and later transferred to Texas Southern University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in  1972. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Thomas taught in the Houston Independent School District for seven (7) years. Ms. Thomas studied at Bates College of Law and Thurgood Marshall School of Law, receiving her Juris Doctorate in May, 1982. Realizing from personal experiences and consultations with clients, that financial hardship is not a repecter of persons, she began her law practice in the area of consumer bankruptcy in 1983 with a desire to help others. In addition to Ms. Thomas’ private practice, she was employed by the Supreme Court of Texas as a grader for the Board of Law Examiners for over 20 years.

Ms. Thomas’ past and present professional memberships includes the State Bar of Texas, The National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, The Houston Association of Debtors Attorneys, The Houston lawyer Association, The National Bar Association, and the College of the State Bar of Texas. She is licensed to practice in the State of Texas, United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, United States Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
