While attending Creighton University, Mr. Weis was a high school soccer coach. He coached Millard South boy's junior varsity soccer, and led Millard North boy's varsity soccer team to the Nebraska State Soccer Tournament. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Mr. Weis participated in a graduate program for International Relations. He then decided to follow his love of the law, and was accepted to Creighton University's School of Law program in August of 1988. During law school, Mr. Weis incorporated his International Relations background with his law school studies. He was chosen as the team oralist representing Creighton University in the Jessup International Moot Court competition in Seattle, WA, and as the director of the law school's international moot court competition. In the summer of 1990, Mr. Weis was one of a handful of students representing the United States in an International Model UN conference conducted in Den Hague, Netherlands.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Weis associated with a general practice firm in Scottsbluff, NE. Having family in Wyoming and Utah, it made sense Mr. Weis would leave the Omaha area and head West. For eleven years, Mr. Weis engaged in the general practice of law, with an emphasis on Civil Litigation, in every courtroom in the Nebraska Panhandle. He has been involved in numerous trials tried before both bench and jury. Mr. Weis's largest Plaintiff verdict at the time was $275,000.00.
In 2003, Mr. Weis married his wife Robin, a native of Wyoming. It was then that Mr. Weis moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and started his own law firm. While developing his firm, Mr. Weis represented school districts, wrongfully terminated employees, and represented farmers/ranchers protecting their water rights from proposed state/government regulation.
In 2009, Mr. Weis returned to Omaha, Nebraska, and was retained by the Sodoro firm. His almost nineteen years of general practice and litigation experience provide Sodoro clients with additional flexibility to meet their legal needs.
Mr. Weis's litigation experience has been utilized by the Sodoro firm to defend doctors, dentists, chiropractors, and hospitals in medical malpractice and health care related lawsuits. He has experience in obstetrical, surgical, and chiropractic treatment malpractice cases.
Mr. Weis has personally appeared before the Nebraska Supreme Court and Court of Appeals on numerous occasions. He has argued cases of first impression before the Nebraska Supreme Court with regard to issues of prescriptive easements, statutory interpretations of the rights of trustees to amend decedents trust documents, and he was one of the first attorneys in Nebraska to argue the procedure, burden of proof, and decision in a Daubert evidentiary hearing.
Mr. Weis and his wife Robin are actively engaged in the lives of their teenage children, and devoted Creighton University soccer fans.
