Renee became interested in Family Law when she began working in the abuse and neglect system as a therapist. Since 2004, Renee has worked with families, addressing issues of abuse and neglect, and fighting passionately to protect children and parents. Renee’s practice focuses on both family law and criminal law.

Renee earned her undergraduate degree from Calvin College, her Master’s degree in Psychology magna cum laude from Western Michigan University, and her law degree cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. During law school, Renee received the Raymond Burr Award for her outstanding performance in Criminal Law, the Certificate of Merit in both Criminal Law and Insurance Law, and was a Research Assistant for Professor Benson.

Renee is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Family Law and Criminal Law Section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, the Federal Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
