Wendy S. Leavitt focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation including appeals. She has extensive experience defending US and non-US corporations and their officers and directors in securities actions, breach of fiduciary duty litigation and other corporate governance disputes. In addition, Ms. Leavitt has both defended and handled appeals for numerous life insurance companies in death benefit claims, sales and marketing practices claims, and in policy holder actions. She has also litigated, both in the trial courts and on appeal, bad faith claims arising out of director and officer liability policies.
She also represents US and international clients in other general commercial litigation including obtaining injunctions to protect trade secrets and other confidential material, prosecuting and defending breach of contract claims, and collaborating pre-litigation with corporate colleagues either to best position the client in the event of litigation, to avoid litigation altogether or to negotiate a pre-litigation resolution of the dispute.
Ms. Leavitt served on the legislative staff for members of the United States Congress from 1981 to 1987, handling policy matters related to commerce, financial institutions and other regulated industries.
AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell, Ms. Leavitt is a member of The Florida Bar and the American Bar Association Litigation Section and Securities Litigation Committee. In 2007, she was selected by her peers for inclusion in Florida Super Lawyers - a distinction honoring the top 5 percent of lawyers in the state.
