David Verschell is a partner and the Director of the Insurance and Audit Division of the New York City Health Care Law Department at Abrams, Fensterman, Fensterman, Eisman, Formato, Ferrara & Einiger, LLP.
Mr. Verschell supervises the audit and refund advisory group, overseeing billing audits of doctors and other health care professionals, handling monetary refund demands and advising providers on how to successfully respond to and/or defend against adverse claims from commercial and government health insurance carriers. Mr. Verschell also represents health care providers in those instances where disputes with health insurance carriers lead to commercial litigation or arbitration. Mr. Verschell advises health care providers on proper coding, documentation and billing policies under the AMA and CMS guidelines, as well as applicable State and Federal laws and regulations.
Mr. Verschell is also a member of the firm's medical malpractice department. An experienced trial attorney and litigator on both sides of the courtroom, his practice has encompassed a broad spectrum of legal matters including medical malpractice, products liability, civil rights violations and representing health care providers in commercial litigation and arbitrations, civil RICO litigation and physician disciplinary and professional misconduct matters before the New York State Department of Health - Office of Professional Medical Conduct. Prior to starting a career in law, Mr. Verschell was a Ratings Services Analyst with Moody's Investors Service, acting as the company's liaison between senior officials of U.S. Corporations, non U.S. Corporations and foreign governments regarding rating services for corporate and government securities.
Mr. Verschell obtained his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law and his B.S. in Biology from SUNY at Stony Brook. He is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association.
