Attorney Kavita Uppal has been practicing law in excess of 16 years. Apart from her extensive prior experience as a prosecutor, she has a substantial background in criminal defense. Ms. Uppal has previously served as a prosecutor for both the District Attorney's Office and the State's Attorney's Office. During her employment as a senior felony prosecutor, Ms. Uppal handled a variety of complex criminal cases, including homicides, serious sex offenses, weapons and narcotics crimes, and several high-profile cases. As a criminal defense attorney, Ms. Uppal has defended a multitude of criminal cases, including first-chair in capital murder trials, serious weapons and drug offenses, as well as drunk driving and major traffic offenses. Ms. Uppal is licensed in the State of Illinois, the State of Michigan, the State of North Carolina, and also is a member of the Bar in Federal Court in the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, the Eastern District of Michigan, and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Uppal was born in Lansing, Michigan. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in legal studies and economics at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1992. After graduating from college, she attended the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law where she received her Juris Doctorate degree in 1995. Kavita is active in many causes including animal rescue operations and has had a lifelong dream to establish an animal rescue shelter.
