He has pioneered innovative settlement and trial techniques and law theories that have resulted in large settlements and verdicts in Texas and elsewhere. He has a nationwide reputation for his use of video and demonstrative evidence in the courtroom.
Since receiving his law degree from Southern Methodist University in 1965, Mr. Turley has authored two books: Aviation Litigation (1986), and Firearms Litigation (1988), both published by Shepard's/McGraw-Hill. He has lectured throughout the United States and authored more than fifty legal articles on the preparation and trial of injury cases.
Mr. Turley is a member of the Texas, Dallas, and American Bar Associations. He has held various leadership offices in those organizations, including Chair of the ATLA Aviation Section, President of the Dallas Trial Lawyers and Director of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, has been recognized as one of the top 13 attorneys in Dallas and one of the leading 10 air crash lawyers in the United States. In 1992 and again in 1997, he achieved one of the 10 largest jury verdicts in the nation.
Mr. Turley has been selected 7 times as D Magazine's Top Lawyers, in 1996, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008. In 2004, in an article about "Dallas Men Who Could Take a Punch," Mr. Turley was officially named by D Magazine as one of "51 Tough Guys" in Dallas history. In 2006, he was recognized as Oklahoma City University’s School of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni. He is a repeat selection to the Texas Super Lawyers' list.
Courts where Mr. Turley has been admitted to practice are: United States Supreme Court, Supreme Court of Texas, Northern District of Texas, Southern District of Texas, Eastern District of Texas and the Western District of Texas. He also is admitted into the following United States Court of Appeals Circuits: 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th.
