Jessica Freiheit Kurzban is a counsel in the Litigation/Controversy and Securities Departments, and a member of the Business Trial Group and Securities Litigation and Enforcement Practice Group. She is also a member of the Dodd-Frank Whistleblower Working Group. She joined the firm in 2011.

Practice

Ms. Kurzban’s broad-based practice focuses on complex commercial litigation. She represents corporate and individual clients before federal and state courts, as well as before arbitral panels. As part of her practice, she defends clients in SEC and other regulatory investigations and enforcement actions, and conducts internal corporate investigations.

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Ms. Kurzban was an associate at Proskauer Rose LLP in California and New York.

Recent Highlights

• Successfully defended an outside director and audit committee member of a publicly-traded technology company in a shareholder suit alleging breach of fiduciary duty
• Defended a venture capitalist shareholder and director in a suit by a minority shareholder
• Represented a private equity portfolio company in a suit brought against its former chief executive officer for breach of contract
• Represented a national publishing firm’s special committee in an internal investigation of the conduct of a key executive
• Represented an international oil tanker company in a breach of contract arbitration
• Conducted an internal investigation into the stock option granting practices of a publicy-traded technology firm
• Represented a multi-national medical products manufacturer in a patent infringement suit

Professional Activities

Ms. Kurzban is a member of the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.
