Dalton Townsend graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee in 1965. In his senior year he was named a Torchbearer. He received his law degree from the University of Tennessee and was admitted to the Bar in 1968. While in law school, he was case notes editor for Tennessee Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. After law school, Mr. Townsend served as an Army officer with duty in Vietnam. He was managing partner of Hodges, Doughty & Carson from 1997 through 2003. He served as Chairman of the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization for 2010. Mr. Townsend is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, past chairman of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Mid South Super Lawyers. He has served as a member of the Knoxville Bar Association Board of Governors and as a member of the Tennessee Bar Association Committee for the Study of Standards of Professional Conduct, 1995-97. He has extensive trial experience in state and federal court. Mr. Townsend served as president of Cherokee Country Club from 2003 until 2005. His hobbies include travel, fishing, and golf.
