Dick Knudsen was born in Omaha and received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Nebraska. He has practiced law in Lincoln since being admitted to the Bar in 1950 until his retirement in 1994. He is now serving as an Arbitrator and Mediator for the National Association of Securities Dealers, the New York Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange.
Dick has been active in the Nebraska State Bar Association, serving as chairman of the House of Delegates, trustee of the Daniel J. Gross Welfare and Assistance Fund, and president of the Lincoln and Nebraska State Bar Associations and the Nebraska State Bar Foundation. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and its Sections of Insurance, Negligence, Compensation Law and Trial Practice.
Dick's area of special interest is trial work in personal injury and tort law. In 1970, he was selected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is also a member of the International Association of Insurance Counsel, National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, Defense Counsel Association of Nebraska, American Judicature Society and American Law Institute. Dick has also served on the Nebraska Supreme Court Committee on Civil Procedure, Nebraska State Bar Commission, the Judicial Nominating Commission and as Interim Executive Director of the Nebraska State Bar Association. He is a past president of the Barristers Club.
In addition to his involvement with the legal profession, Dick has been active in civic affairs. He is past chairman of the Lincoln Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and a trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation.
Dick and his wife Sally have three children and ten grandchildren.
