Steve received his B.S. in Business Administration from SUNY New Paltz in 1989 and worked for several years in the field of financial planning. He enrolled in New York Law School in 1994, and graduated with honors in 1997. While attending NYLS, he placed first in the Froessel Moot Court Competition in both the writing and oral advocacy categories. He then went on to represent the school on the National Moot Court Team. In his final year, he was honored with the William Kappelman Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy.
After law school, Steve joined his family’s law firm in Kingston, New York, where he learned from masters: his father, Lou Klein, and his grandfather, retired Supreme Court Justice, Aaron Klein. He has chosen to concentrate on the disciplines of matrimonial and family law, and has built a solid reputation in these fields, having been referred to handle cases as far south as Suffolk County, and as far north as Montgomery and Otsego Counties. On several occasions, his trial skills have convinced other attorneys to retain Steve to handle complicated and sometimes lengthy trials.
He has long believed in serving the community, having served on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Ulster County, the Gateway Industries Foundation Board, and the Board of the Kingston Kiwanis Club. He has just been elected to the Board of the Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Dutchess County. He served on the Ulster County Legislature, and has taught college for over a decade, at SUNY New Paltz, then Dutchess Community College, and now at the Lifetime Learning Institute at Bard.
Finally, country music fans may recognize Steve as the lead singer of the band “Steve Anthony.” He wrote the music and lyrics for the band’s album “Country as You,” released by Platinum Plus Records in Nashville in 2005.
