Shehla is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. She is based in our St. Paul office and is a member of the Estate Planning and Administration Section. Shehla practices principally in the areas of:
- Estate Planning
- Trusts and Estates
- Nonprofit organization law
Shehla’s estate planning practice includes estate planning; drafting wills and trusts; trust and estate administration; business succession planning; and preparation of related federal and state income, estate and gift tax returns. She advises clients on estate, gift and generation-skipping tax issues, as well as income tax issues that may be associated with estate planning.
In addition, Shehla’s practice involves a significant amount of nonprofit representation. She has experience working with family foundations, private foundations, charitable trusts and public charities. She advises various institutions on tax filings and also drafts trust agreements, articles and bylaws.
Shehla is a member of the Ramsey County, Minnesota State and American Bar associations and is admitted to practice before the Minnesota state and federal courts. She is a member of the board of the Joseph C. and Lillian A. Duke Foundation, as well as secretary for the Butler Family Foundation. Shehla has also been named a "Rising Star" by Minnesota Law & Politics.
Born in London, England, Shehla received her B.A. in accounting magna cum laude from the University of North Dakota. She successfully completed the Certified Public Accountants Exam and became a licensed CPA in the State of North Dakota. She currently holds an inactive certificate in the State of Minnesota. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA). Shehla received her law degree with honors from Drake University Law School. She joined Briggs in 1995.
