Kenny Tan is a California real estate attorney who holds licenses as a real estate broker, civil engineer and commercial pilot with an instrument rating. He obtained his pilot's license in 1980. From 1980 to 1982 he was employed at Singapore Airlines as a pilot trainee.
In 1982 he came to the United States for his college education. From 1983 to 1985 he attended El Camino College and later transferred to California Sate University, Long Beach and graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1987. He attended UCLA from 1987 through 1989 and obtained his M.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Geotechnical engineering.
Before graduating from UCLA and while working on his master's thesis in geotechnical engineering he began his career as a geotechnical/ environmental engineer in 1988 at the Earth Technology Corporation and continued working there until 1993. As a geotechnical (soil) engineer Mr. Tan was involved in the design and construction phases of many private and governmental projects. He later became employed by the Metropolitan Water District and was involved in its Groundwater Recovery Program in which MWD implemented various projects to assist many local groundwater agencies that treat and recover groundwater for domestic use.
As a real estate attorney for the past 17 years Mr. Tan routinely consults and advises real estate agents, developers, buyers, investors, landlords, contractors subcontractors, material suppliers, property owners on issues related to title and/or possession of real property including landlord/tenant, eminent domain, boundary disputes, mechanic's liens, lis pendens, tax lien, foreclosure, partition, buy and sell.
As a litigator, Mr. Tan is actively involved in many aspects of dispute resolution in real estate. He spends approximately 80% of his time in litigation and 20% in transactional work. He often represents clients in mediation, arbitration, and litigation involving real estate disputes.
In 2003 Mr. Tan obtained his real estate broker license. He is a member of the National Association of Realtors, California Association of Realtors, West San Gabriel Board of Realtors and the Chinese American Real Estate Professionals Association (CAREPA). From 2001 through 2005 he served as the legal counsel to the Chinese American Construction Professionals (CACP) and was a member of its Board of Directors.
He has developed a passion for real estate and is particularly interested in working with clients in the foreclosure area. While he had given up the idea of being a commercial pilot many years ago he still loves flying and frequently travels to different parts of the United States on a small plane.
