Kessler, David

After years of defending physicians and hospitals in medical malpractice cases, Bruce Sutphin brings a unique multidimensional background in science, medicine, and law to Rosenblum, Ronan, Kessler & Sarachan. Bruce became counsel to the firm in 1995 and now limits his practice to representing injured individuals.

Bruce is a native of Brooklyn and grew up in Connecticut. He received his bachelor's degree with a double major in chemistry and zoology from the University of Connecticut, where he also did graduate work in biochemistry. After working in the anatomic pathology laboratory at Middlesex Memorial Hospital and assisting in hundreds of autopsies, Bruce joined the organ-transplant team at Hartford Hospital, working as a research associate in the surgical research department. For more than 10 years, Bruce worked closely with surgeons and other medical professionals, participating in over a thousand surgical procedures. He also obtained EMT training.

Bruce has published scientific papers in prestigious medical journals, including Lancet, Transplantation, Transplantation Proceedings, and the Journal of Surgical Research and has presented papers at national scientific meetings. He was a member of several medical professional organizations, including the North American Transplant Coordinators Association, the Transplantation Society, the Society for Cryobiology, and the American Association of Tissue Banks. While at Hartford Hospital he was elected chairman of the employee representation unit, representing more than 6,000 employees in dealings with the hospital administration.

In 1979 Bruce decided to apply his medical, scientific, and technical background to legal problems. He graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1983 and spent the first 10 years of his legal career defending physicians and hospitals in hundreds of cases for the Troy law firm of Noonan, Troue, Gutermuth and O'Connor and then as a partner for O'Connor and Yoquinto.

Bruce is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and its Birth Trauma Litigation Group. He is admitted to practice law in both New York and Connecticut.
