Shaun Sullivan has successfully represented clients in a variety of major disputes over the last thirty years. Among many other important assignments, he was the partner in charge of the firm's work on behalf of one of the big five accounting firms in what the press routinely described as the largest securities class action ever filed in Connecticut. Additionally, Shaun was lead counsel for a number of New England utilities seeking to recover hundreds of millions of dollars in damages resulting from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's decision to shut down a large nuclear power plant for safety violations. In addition, Shaun has acted on behalf of a number of companies in intellectual property disputes in Connecticut and elsewhere. He successfully defended a domestic software manufacturer in an arbitration instituted by a large Japanese electronics manufacturer and was counsel for the prevailing party in a patent license suit brought by a Fortune 50 company. Most recently, he successfully represented a utility company in a contract dispute involving the joint ownership of a large electric generation plant.
Shaun is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, former Chairman of the College's Committee on Alternatives for Dispute Resolution, and a past Chair of the College's State Committee. In 2002 he was elected a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, is the Academy's current State Chair and is past Chair of the SBL Litigators Section of the International Bar Association. He has the distinction of having been chosen by his peers for listing in The Best Lawyers in America since 1987, in the categories of business and personal injury litigation (for more about the standards for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, please click here). Shaun has been chosen for listing in the Guide to the World's Leading Litigation Lawyers and Chambers USA America's Leading Business Lawyers (for more information about the standards for inclusion in Chambers USA, please click here). He is a past State Co-Chair for the United States Supreme Court Historical Society. He has been appointed by the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for Connecticut as a Special Master to supervise all aspects of lengthy pretrial proceedings in a complex antitrust action involving, among other things, the ability of a foreign corporation to take advantage of a European "blocking statute" to avoid the discovery orders of a United States court. He also has been selected to serve as a Special Master in a number of state court pretrial proceedings. Shaun is a frequent lecturer on trial practice and litigation-related subjects. Further, he has written a number of articles on trial practice, including one recently appearing in the Connecticut Lawyer dealing with changes in the approach to class certification in Connecticut.
