Barrett A. Stern is an established family law litigator with a growing practice in the area of Collaborative Law. After admission to the Texas Bar, Barrett gained valuable courtroom, trial, and negotiation experience which he now combines with the principles of collaboration to obtain the best outcome for clients related to both property and children. With a focus on the development of effective short and long term goals Barrett is able to navigate clear paths to resolving issues involving assets, businesses, debts, custody, visitation, and support. He is skilled at helping clients develop and articulate effective short and long term goals, and then proceeds to effectively solve the difficult issues in order for his clients to achieve their goals.
Barrett is a graduate of Syracuse University. At Syracuse he was awarded an academic scholarship, played varsity soccer and received the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Academic Achievement Award and the Gamma-Van Raaite Award.
Barrett received his law degree from St. John’s School of Law in 2002, and became licensed by the Texas Supreme Court in 2002. He has since been licensed to practice in the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Texas since 2006.
Before Barrett became an established family law litigator, he spent several years as a civil litigator representing large corporations in complex litigation cases. As a civil litigator, Barrett worked on cases all over the United States.
Barrett has been recognized, in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011, as A Texas Rising Star based on peer voting and independent research by Law & Politics, a distinction limited to the top 2.5% of total attorneys in Texas.
Barrett is a member of the State Bar of Texas (Family Law and Litigation sections), the Dallas and Collin County Bar Associations (Family Law sections), Collaborative Professionals of Dallas (Member), the American Bar Association (Litigation and Family Law sections), Collaborative Law Institute of Texas (Member), and the State Bar of College. Barrett has also authored and written papers and spoke on issues in the areas of family law and discovery.
Barrett also volunteers his time to coaching youth soccer and is on the Board of Legacy Senior Communities in Plano, Texas. He has also been on the board of other non-for-profit companies.
