Jeff Stein is a partner in the Corporate Practice Group and a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Practice Group. He joined the firm in 1983.
Practice
Mr. Stein concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate governance. His practice includes the representation of publicly-held companies, as well as venture-backed and other privately-held companies. He has been involved in domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, public and private issuances of securities, private equity buyouts, asset sales, joint ventures and the negotiation of distribution, OEM and other license agreements.
Mr. Stein acts as general counsel or lead transactional counsel to companies in a broad range of industries, including medical devices, biotechnology, semiconductor, waste management, recycling and clean energy, agriculture cooperatives, software and the Internet.

- Representation of Mitt Romney, former Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and three members of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, in their successful efforts to remove the Chairman of the Turnpike Authority and to address certain governance matters limiting the board members' ability to effectively manage the Authority.

Mr. Stein has been an adjunct professor in Corporate Finance at Boston College Law School.

Publications
Mr. Stein is a published author on various legal topics. One of his articles, "Providing Undersecured Creditors with Postconfirmation Appreciation in the Value of the Collateral," appeared in the American Bankruptcy Law Journal. He also wrote a chapter in a book published by Butterworth Legal Publishers regarding the securities law issues involved in asset-backed securitization transactions.
Other
Mr. Stein enjoys his time with his wife and three children. He also competes in marathons and triathlons, having recently been named a USA Triathlon All-American. He has participated in the 140.6 mile Hawaii Ironman competition in Kona, Hawaii and will be a member of Team USA in the world championship Olympic distance triathlon in New Zealand in 2012.
