SCOTT D. SPOONER was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1952. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois, and he was admitted to the Illinois Bar and the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois in 1981; the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in 1985; the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in 1987; and the United States Supreme Court in 1988. Mr. Spooner graduated from Western Illinois University with a B.A. with Highest Honors in History in 1977, and he graduated from Drake University School of Law with his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1981.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Spooner served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois from 1981 to 1989 (serving as Senior Trial Lawyer for Civil Litigation during his final two years at the Attorney General's Office) and as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney from 1986 to 1988. He has been engaged in the private practice of law since 1989, handling primarily the defense of casualty, professional negligence (medical, legal, architectural, engineering and accounting malpractice), and administrative law matters for insureds of several major insurance carriers. He also served as a Special Assistant Attorney General from 1989 to 1991.
During his career, Mr. Spooner has tried more than 70 civil cases to verdict before juries in state and federal courts throughout Illinois. He has also been a speaker, presenter and panelist for programs of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE)and the Sangamon County Bar Association, and he is a member of the Sangamon County Bar Association (SCBA), Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) and American Bar Association (ABA). Mr. Spooner has a very high to preeminent Peer Review Legal Ability Rating (A.V.-rated) from Martindale-Hubbell and was selected as a Leading Lawyer in the State of Illinois for listing with the Leading Lawyers Network.
