Jay F. Jason, Esq. (Jay) joined Tarshis, Catania, Liberth, Mahon & Milligram, PLLC as special counsel in May 2008. Jay has been practicing law in Orange and Rockland Counties for over thirty years.
Jay practices almost exclusively in the disciplines of Construction and Labor Law. Although for over twenty-five years the principal of a small law firm, Jay merged his practice with TCLMM where he is tasked with the development of a construction law division. In that role, Mr. Jason is also a mentor to several mid-level associates.
Jay received his Bachelor’s Degree (Cum Laude, With Distinction) from Duke University in 1973. In 1976 he attained his law degree from Boston University. In addition, in 2005, Jay attained a Masters Degree in Construction Management from New York University.
Jay is admitted to practice in New York and Massachusetts and in various Federal Courts, including the United States Supreme Court. Jay is a member of the Construction Industry Panel of the American Arbitration Association, and has taught the subject of Construction Law at New York University. Jay has also instructed for the Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
Jay represents Owners, Construction Managers, General Contractors and Subcontractors, primarily in commercial construction matters. Jay regularly advises clients on the formation of construction contracts and compliance therewith. Jay is an accomplished litigator in the area of construction disputes and has handled jury and non-jury trials in Federal and State courts. Jay has also participated as an advocate and arbitrator in dozens of mediations and arbitrations in the construction field. In addition, Jay represents the numerous entities in the public and private sectors in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements and before the New York Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) and the NLRB.
A private pilot with both commercial and instrument ratings, Jay has flown for Angel Flight, an organization that transports individuals that cannot afford to fly commercially, to and from medical appointments. Jay has also served as an Officer and on the Boards of numerous local non-profit organizations including the Boy Scouts of America and the American Heart Association.
