Ben is an associate in the Immigration Division of McKinney Perry & Coalter. Ben’s practice focuses mainly in deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA), family-based immigration benefits, and naturalizations.
Originally from Manassas, Virginia, Ben moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in 2003 to attend Guilford College, where he received a B.A. in Peace & Conflict Studies and Philosophy in 2007. In 2012, Ben graduated from Elon University School of Law.
At Elon Law, Ben served as a student-attorney for the school’s Humanitarian Immigration Law Clinic, where he helped refugee and asylee clients become United States citizens. Ben was selected by the clinic’s faculty-practitioners to receive the annual Commitment to Humanitarian Immigration Law Clinic Award in recognition for his exceptional service to clients. Ben also interned at Legal Aid of North Carolina, Winston-Salem, and two private law offices while in law school.
As a law student, Ben was a member of the Moot Court Board and represented Elon Law at the College of Trial Lawyers National Moot Court competition in Richmond, Virginia. He also authored the problem and bench brief for Elon Law’s 2012 Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition. Ben also served as President of the Elon Law ACLU, as Co-Director of the Elon Law Pro Bono Board, and as a Case Manager for the Innocence Project. In recognition of Ben’s commitment to service and student leadership, he was selected to receive the 2012 David Gergen Award for Leadership & Professionalism, Elon Law’s highest honor for a graduating student.
Ben is admitted to the North Carolina Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Greensboro Bar Association, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
