Following the firm’s long tradition of family foundation, Jesse Smith joined his father, Avera & Smith partner Rod Smith at the firm in 2009.
Jesse Smith is a 2002 Honors Graduate of the University of Florida, and is a 2006 graduate of the University of Maryland College of Law. While studying at the University of Maryland, Jesse interned at the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Baltimore, Maryland, and the Office of the State’s Attorney in Gainesville, Florida.
Prior to joining Avera & Smith, Jesse spent two years with Florida’s Office of the State’s Attorney, first prosecuting general misdemeanors, then serving in the Domestic Violence Unit.
Jesse’s work at Avera & Smith now covers an important range of practice areas, including Criminal Defense, and Labor and Employment Law in both State and Federal courts. He also practices administrative law and manages cases for the Florida Board of Nursing, Florida Board of Medicine, Florida Division of Retirement, and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Jesse and his wife, Jan, have two adopted shelter cats called Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Springsteen. Jesse is a golfer and a devotee of the sport of adventure racing.
