James Ilijevich has been practicing law in the Fredericksburg area for almost 15 years. A graduate of the George Mason University School of Law, he began his career with the Office of the Public Defender in the City of Fredericksburg in 1996. A tireless advocate, he was promoted to and served as Deputy Public Defender before leaving that office in 2006 to serve clients in private practice. A highly regarded criminal defense attorney, he has extensive experience in all areas of criminal defense including homicide, robbery, abduction and sexual assault. Whether he is handling a traffic case or a serious felony, he treats each client and case with the same dedication.
Since entering private practice, he has expanded his practice and has represented clients in all areas of family law, including custody, visitation and support. He also has represented clients in post conviction litigation and defends clients in involuntary civil commitment hearings.
He is retired from the United States Navy. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association.
