George E. Hyde is a Partner/Shareholder in the Firm and the Managing Partner of the Firm’s Austin Office.  Mr. Hyde has over 20 years of overall legal experience and has practiced law in the area of local government and local governmental official representation for over 12 years.  Mr. Hyde currently practices in all of our practice areas.

Mr. Hyde is designated as the City Attorney for the Cities of Garden Ridge, Texas, Bay City, Texas, Pflugerville, Texas and served for an extended period of time as Interim City Attorney for the City of Victoria, Texas.  He continuously assists many of the Firm’s other city attorney/general counsel clients and has managed the Firm’s municipal prosecution services for over nine years.  Mr. Hyde has substantial experience in economic development representation, having assisted the Cities of Victoria, Bryan, Windcrest and currently Pflugerville.

He is currently managing Special Counsel and Litigation work for the Texas Cities of Victoria, Alvin, Rosenberg, Missouri City, Buda, Groesbeck, Pflugerville; Dallas County Hospital District; Bexar County, Frio County, Karnes County, Kendall County, Reeves County, Karnes/Wilson County Juvenile Probation, the District Attorney’s Office of the 198th Judicial District of Texas, and is approved litigation counsel by both the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool and the Texas Association of Counties. He also serves a supporting role in the Firm’s Labor Negotiations practice.

Mr. Hyde also serves as a regular state-wide speaker, providing training in many aspects of local government operations and management.  He presents for the Texas Municipal League, Texas City Attorney’s Association, Texas Municipal Human Resources Association, Texas Municipal Clerk’s Association, and Texas Municipal Court Education Center, Texas Police Association, the Texas Chapter of the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, Alamo Area Council of Governments, and the University of Texas CLE Land Use Conference, among many others. 

Mr. Hyde is a member of the Texas City Attorneys Association (TCAA) and many other professional associations. He has been admitted to the State Bar of Texas, the Western, Southern and Northern U.S. District Courts of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.  He has successfully represented Texas clients coast to coast, in suits filed in the Northern Federal District Court of California and the Eastern District Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria, Virginia.

Mr. Hyde earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Southwest Texas State University in 1988. He worked dual careers as a peace officer and as a litigation paralegal in the product liability, employment labor and insurance defense fields until entering law school in 1996.  Mr. Hyde received his Juris Doctor with cum laude honors from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1998.  Mr. Hyde retired from law enforcement in 2011, with 23 years of experience, and holds a Texas Master Peace Officer license with Texas state certifications as an Instructor and Firearms Instructor from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
