Michael A. Simpson
Mike Simpson has practiced law in Wise County since 1977. He was with the firm of Woodruff, Fostel, Wren and Simpson for 21 years until he formed Simpson, Boyd and Powers in 1998. Mike has attained verdicts that were noted in Texas Lawyer's Top Ten Verdicts of the Year in 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2005. Simpson has also attained the largest jury verdict ever in a trade mark infringement case in Texas history. Mike has obtained one of the largest jury verdicts in an anti-trust case in the nation, a $488 million dollar verdict. One of his 2004 jury trials was selected as a top verdict in the U.S. and featured in VerdictSearch's Top 100 Verdicts of 2004, published by ALM Properties, Inc. Mike has been voted a Texas Super Lawyer by his peers in 2003, 2004, 2005 2006 and 2007.
Mike Simpson was born and raised in Valley Mills, Texas, a small town Northwest of Waco. His family moved to Austin when he was 13 years old. He graduated Austin Reagan in 1970.
In 1970, after receiving his draft notice, Mike joined the United States Marine Corps. He qualified for officer candidate school and was then sent to Quantico, Virginia for boot camp and officer training. After officer training, he enrolled in the University of North Texas. He was honorably discharged from the USMC in 1973.
Mike attended the University of North Texas (earning a BBA) for his undergraduate studies; he was elected president of the student body his senior year. After graduating from UNT in 1974, Mike attended Baylor Law School where he received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1977.
Mike and his firm have been featured in statewide and national media. His successful defense of Oilman Clayton Munger charged with the murder of his girlfriend is chronicled in Texas Justice by Martana, Red Bandana Publishing. His cases have been noted in other publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Texas Monthly, Texas Lawyer, Dallas Business, The Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Houston Chronicle and National Law Journal. Mike has authored various legal articles and has been asked to speak at various forums.
Throughout his career, Mike has been active member and leader in the Bridgeport community. He is a member and former officer of the Bridgeport Lions Club and the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce. Mike has remained highly involved in Bridgeport youth activities, education and sports as a mentor, sponsor and parent. He and his family are members of The First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport.
Mike, a licensed and type rated jet pilot, enjoys flying, cattle ranching, fly fishing, hunting, and following his oldest daughter, Michelle, on the Water Skiing Pro Tour. Mike is married to Martine Simpson. They have three daughters, Michelle, Mackenzie, and Maryssa.
