Peter Hormel studied classics at Brown University, obtaining his bachelors degree in 1991. He studied law at the University of Arizona College of Law, graduating in 1994. Following graduation, he worked as an associate attorney at Schwanbeck & Present PLLC, a small Tucson firm in the general civil practice. In 1998, he accepted a position as a trial attorney at the Pima County Public Defender's office, where he represented indigent defendants in misdemeanor and felony matters in the Pima County Superior Court. From 2000 to 2005, he worked as a trial attorney at the Pima County Legal Defender's Office, handling serious felonies, including drug trafficking conspiracies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, sexual assaults, and homicides.
In 2006, Peter left the public sector, opening the Law Office of Peter Hormel, PC. In that capacity, he has focused primarily on the defense of persons accused of crimes in the federal system: drug trafficking, alien smuggling, and immigration-related offenses. In his 18 years of practice, Peter has handled every aspect of criminal defense: bond hearings, pretrial motions, investigations, settlement negotiations, bench trial, jury trials, and state and federal appeals. He has significant experience in both the state and federal systems in Southern Arizona.
