William R. Shaw brings a unique blend of public service and over 30 years of private practice of law to his clients. He offers civil and criminal litigation experience along with practical and extensive advice and counsel in commercial transactions, business, and personal legal affairs.

Bill Shaw was born and raised in Ithaca, New York and resides with his wife in nearby Trumansburg, New York. His education includes an Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctorate degrees from Cornell in government, public administration, and law, respectively.

He is admitted to the Tompkins County and New York State Bar Associations, as well as a decade long member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and other professional organizations.

Bill Shaw concluded over a decade of public service in Washington D.C., Albany, NY, and his home community with a term as Mayor of the City of Ithaca in 1982-83.  He continues to be active in local and regional community affairs.  More recently, he was elected to serve as a Town Justice in Seneca County, part-time.

Bill Shaw is admitted to practice in New York and its Federal District Courts. He is certified as a Federal Court Mediator for the Northern District of New York.  He also served as a Hearing Examiner for the NYSOC&FS.  He has appeared in eight or more county courts, NYS Supreme Courts, and two Appellate Divisions during over 30 years of private practice.  He has also conducted trials in federal court and the NYS Court of Claims.

Mr. Shaw has represented clients in real estate matters involving single lots and large subdivisions, and residential and commercial transactions of six, seven, and eight figures.

Mr. Shaw's background and experience in personnel and employment discrimination has lead to thirty years of active practice for employers and employees in the complex area of Employment Discrimination before the NYS Division of Human Rights, USEEOC, State and Federal courts. Referrals and court appointments in this field have come from Syracuse, Binghamton, Auburn, and Elmira.

Bill Shaw relies on his training and experience with up-to-date computer software to expedite research and preparation of legal papers, as well as to communicate with clients, adversaries and courts.
