Dr. Ali Shah is a senior associate in the firm's Intellectual Property Department and Litigation/Controversy Department. He joined the firm in 2006.
Practice
Dr. Shah has experience with intellectual property litigation, due diligence, and patent prosecution. His practice is focused on biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and biomedical device patent litigation and prosecution.
Prior to his legal studies, Dr. Shah worked as a research technician in the Department of Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine, and in the Department of Experimental Pathology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Previously, Dr. Shah was a research assistant in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.
His doctoral thesis, entitled "Cancer Immunotherapy via Retroviral Blockade of TGF-beta signaling in Leukocytes," was completed in 2002 in the laboratory of Dr. Chung Lee of the Department of Urology at Northwestern University Medical School.

Community Involvement
While in law school at the University of Michigan, Dr. Shah participated in the Family Law Project, a nonprofit organization in Ann Arbor, Michigan that provided legal assistance in obtaining protective orders for domestic violence victims. Since joining WilmerHale, Dr. Shah has been a volunteer in the Pro Bono Landlord/Tenant Clinic of the DC Bar. He has also done volunteer work with the Jewish Social Service Agency of Metropolitan Washington assisting immigrants from the former Soviet Union become naturalized US citizens.
