S. EASON BALCH, SR., a native of Madison, Alabama, obtained his B.S. degree in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama in 1940, and his LL.B. from the University of Virginia in 1948. He is an Army veteran of World War II, and was a major at the time of his release from service.
Mr. Balch became associated with the law firm of Martin, Turner & McWhorter upon his graduation from law school in 1948, and became a partner in the firm of Martin & Blakey in October of 1953. In 1959, the firm changed its name to Martin, Vogtle, Balch & Bingham.
Over his 42 year career as an attorney, Mr. Balch has been involved in numerous labor, antitrust and wholesale rate cases, but the work of which he is most proud is the legislative effort he was engaged in regarding the passage of the Federal Power Act.
Mr. Balch has been a member of numerous committees over the years. Included among these are: Member of Alabama Power Company's Board of Directors; Former Chairman of the Edison Electric Institute Legal Committee; Member, Fellow of American Bar Foundation, American Bar Association; Trustee of Farrah Law Society; Advisory Director for the Cumberland School of Law; Member, Federal Energy Bar Association, and Charter Member and former Board Member, Birmingham Civic Opera Association. He is also a member and former vestryman of the Episcopal Church of the Advent. While Mr. Balch is no longer a partner at Balch & Bingham LLP, he continues to counsel the firm and has made a commitment to maintain his involvement with those clients with whom he has a relationship.
