A graduate in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, John received his law degree from the University of Tennessee. After three years as an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service he earned a Masters of Law in Taxation degree from New York University. John concentrates his practice in Wills, Trusts and Estates, in Estate Planning and Administration, corporate and business matters.
Recognized by the North Carolina State Bar among the first group of lawyers in North Carolina certified as a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning & Probate Law, John is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He has served as president of the East Carolina Estate Planning Council and has served on a variety of bar committees for estate tax and administration issues. Additionally, John has drafted several legislative initiatives for the North Carolina Legislature. He has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers and The Legal Elite.
Now retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Judge Advocate Department Reserve of the United States Air Force, John continues to be active in community affairs. He served as a Boy Scout Master and a member of the Eagle Scout Review Board. In addition to acting as director for several private companies, John has served as Chairman of the Endowment Committee of Tuscarora Authority, Wayne County Economic Development Commission, Goldsboro Committee of 100, and the Goldsboro Arts Council. He is a member, lay reader and vestryman of St. Stephens Episcopal Church. For his efforts, John has been awarded the Silver Beaver, The Presidential Eagle Scout Award of Merit, as well as several Air Force Meritorious Service and Commendation Medals.
