After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2004, Nathan spent three years working in Austin, Texas as a sales representative and corporate trainer for Dell, Inc. In 2007, Nathan returned to his hometown of Madison to attend law school at the University of Wisconsin. During law school, Nathan clerked for a civil litigation firm where he assisted in a variety of matters ranging from family law disputes to civil rights lawsuits. He also developed an interest in criminal law through his clinical work for the Wisconsin Innocence Project, where he assisted the wrongfully convicted in their fight to clear their names.
After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2010, Nathan began a two-year federal clerkship for the Honorable Robert W. Pratt, District Court Judge for the Southern District of Iowa. In this role he continued to hone his knowledge of the criminal law by working exclusively on Judge Pratt’s criminal cases, including felon-in-possession, child pornography, and multi-layered drug conspiracy cases. He also developed an expertise in applying the complex federal sentencing guidelines. In 2012, Nathan once again returned to Madison, where he worked as a Special Prosecutor for the Dane County District Attorney’s Office. As a prosecutor, Nathan primarily handled OWI and other traffic cases, learning the intricacies of Wisconsin’s drunk driving laws, but also worked on felony and misdemeanor cases ranging from battery to theft.
Nathan’s variety of experiences has afforded him a unique understanding of the challenges and pitfalls that those accused of crimes are facing. He is excited to draw on the knowledge he gained working both as a prosecutor and for a federal judge in order to aggressively represent those facing criminal charges as well as those seeking assistance with family law matters.
Nathan is a member of the Wisconsin Bar, the Iowa Bar, and the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
