Robin Schmähl has extensive experience in complex, multiparty litigation. Her practice focuses on product liability defense, with a particular emphasis on individual and class action product liability cases. Robin has defended clients in the tobacco, beryllium, welding, and semiconductor industries — many of whom faced litigation in the wake of adverse media exposure. The matters litigated include claims of toxic exposure, product design defects, failure to warn of known dangers, racketeering, fraud, conspiracy, consumer protection, and breach of warrant. Among Robin's areas of experience are coordinating multidefendant litigation efforts, conducting expert discovery on medical and scientific issues, and developing cutting-edge defensive theories.
Prior to attending law school Robin worked for several years as a computer programmer/systems analyst designing logistics systems. At Jones Day she has used her computer experience to coordinate electronic discovery and the development of litigation databases. Robin is active in the Atlanta legal community, having served as a barrister for the Bleckley Inn of Court (2000-2002) and volunteered as a pro bono lawyer, providing legal services to underprivileged women through Jones Day's partnership with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers. She is also committed to public service, serving as a volunteer for Hands On Atlanta, the food bank, Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross flood relief projects, and the Emory Law School mentor program.
